English IV -- Mrs. Joyce
Selections of Student Work
Welcome to a spot where you can look at samples of student work from English IV classes during th e 2008-2009 School year. All of the work here was completed to meet full or partial requirements for completing a semester of senior English. The work involved bringing together many disciplines and many skills learned over a high school career. Information on the project will be found on the pages created by Mrs. Joyce, the senior English instructor to provide a variety of ways for students to showcase their work. Some students have chosen to display web sites dealing with the selected topic along with other pieces of work that were part of the project. Web pages, brochures, Formal presentations using presentation software, and copies of papers maybe included.
The Decade of the 1980s
When one thinks of the 1980s, one can point to the Hubble Telescope as a very typical example of a project that spanned the entire decade, starting with mirror construction, complete with flaws in 1979, through a delayed launch in 1986 following the Challenger disaster. A new decade would dawn before the telescope would actually enter orbit and service. Despite all the challenges, the setbacks and the repair missions, the Hubble Telescope has provided the world with incredible information and discoveries in the local area and in the vastness of space and time. Pictured above is one of the largest panoramas ever taken by Hubble, a 50-light year wide slice of the Carina Nebula. The photo is from the Hubble Site gallery, http://hubblesite.org/gallery/. The Hubble Site is produced and maintained by the Space Telescope Science Institute's Office of Public Outreach and much of the material at the site is in the public domain and available for use. Users should check though because some universities and other organizations using Hubble may lay a copyright claim on their material.
