After careful consideration of a mixture of contributing factors: cost per students, staffing concerns and the condition of facilities; the Hardin School District has made the difficult decision that the closure of Fort Smith Elementary is the best path forward for the district’s students and staff as a whole.
While we are all disappointed that this is where we are; we do want to pay tribute to the special place Fort Smith School has been over the years and the impact it has had on so many in our community.
We will host a celebration of Fort Smith Elementary’s legacy and history following the last day of school, May 30th, from 2:00 to 5:00. Food and drinks will be available and we invite all alumni, families and other visitors to come walk the halls, visit classrooms, relive memories and share your stories.
